From tragedy comes hope
The 112-year-old ClearWater Farm barn was accidentally burned to the ground in October 2016 by a couple of kids. It was a loss felt by the entire community. Since then, local youth have stepped up to share ideas about how to rebuild the barn and we are taking our architectural and landscape cues from them!
We are already on our way!
The Town of Georgina’s contribution of the insurance for the old barn has gotten us ¼ of the way to our fundraising goal of $1.9 Million. Now we need your help to bring hope to our young people.
Dreamed up by kids for kids
The fully accessible ClearWater Farm Barn is now ready to be rebuilt as a four-season touchstone for school groups and kids’ activities — connecting those kids to their food, the land, the lake, and Georgina’s past.
Through school-linked programs, camps, internships and innovative workshops more than 2,000 kids each year will soon be making lifelong memories at this historic property on the shores of Lake Simcoe.
But it’s so much more!
It will be a gathering space that will bring joy to the whole community with the ability to host musical and dramatic performances, weddings and events. Our aim is to have this multi-disciplinary space in the barn contribute to the sustainability of the entire farm. ClearWater Farm is already on its way to becoming a living laboratory that helps young people develop learning experiences for themselves and their communities.
You can become involved in an Old Fashioned Community Barn Raising “Bee” August 20th -27th, leading up to Georgina’s 200th Anniversary on August 28th. We are currently seeking participation from people who want to help bring a better future to Georgina. People like you.
