The Canadian Voice behind Freddie Mercury & Bohemian Rhapsody

Bohemian Rhapsody is now the highest grossing music biopic of all time. The movie has received mixed reviews from critics, but fans are a little bit more forgiving of the creative liberties taken and timeline manipulations of the history of Queen throughout the film.

Rami Malek did an incredible job bringing the energy and spirit of Freddie Mercury back to life. He discussed the role this interview with Jimmy Kimmel back in September.

There is also a Canadian connection to the project as well. The vocals of Freddie Mercury in the movie comprised of actual audio and studio dubs of Freddie, Rami Malek, and Canadian born singer Marc Martel.

Marc was born in Montreal and lives in Nashville. Back in 2011, he auditioned for the official Queen tribute project called The Queen Extravaganza.

He got the gig obviously and was a part of the group until 2017. He went on to join the Ultimate Queen Celebration.

Marc performed for Celine Dion (a massive Queen fan) and you can see in the video that Marc’s rendition brought the legend to tears.

Marc’s unbelievable voice and range and his ability to nail certain “isms” of Freddie’s is mind boggling.

Check out this one take rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody and it is no wonder that he was commissioned to provide vocals for the biopic.

Freddie would be proud!

Bohemian Rhapsody is in theatres.
