Live updates: Coronavirus in Canada

WATCH: Nothing is off the table in solving long-term care home crisis, Trudeau says

The novel coronavirus, which causes the disease COVID-19, has been classified as a pandemic by the World Health Organization after it spread worldwide.

Countries around the world imposed lockdowns and curfews, and asked people to self-isolate or practise social distancing to try to control the spread of the virus.

Now, months after those moves, several countries are cautiously reopening — including Canada.

This week, Ontario and Quebec released reports from the Canadian military that documented challenges — and in some cases shocking conditions — at certain long-term care facilities.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded to the reports saying he’s “not taking anything off the table” when it comes to addressing the issue.

Trudeau did not address Canadians on Thursday outside Rideau Cottage in Ottawa, as he typically does. The prime minister is co-hosting a meeting of the United Nations, where global leaders are discussing a coordinated response to COVID-19 recovery.
