Making Change invites you and your family to a virtual family day Caribbean Paper Masks workshop! Families will learn more about Caribbean carnival culture and the artistry and purpose of mask-making as a part of masquerade performance. Using the art of collage and a variety of coloured and textured papers, families will create their own vibrant mask.
Angela Francis is a Canadian/Grenadian artist who studied Fine Arts at Georgian College and Graphic Design and Animation at The Art Institute of Toronto. She has also studied Visual Arts at The University of The West Indies in Trinidad. With over 30 years of experience, Angela teaches painting, her primary form of art, from her home studio in Barrie. Her studio, AFFA Studio is a local art collective for emerging artists.
The materials you will need are: assorted coloured card stock or stiffer papers, assorted construction paper, magazines (for colour and visual texture), mask form template (printed full page at 8.5 x 11) elastic (can be purchased at Michaels) or string (purchased at Dollar store), stapler (with staples), scotch tape, white glue or glue stick, scissors, pencil, eraser and a clear table.
